Following the footsteps of my loving father, former Senior Assistant Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 1989, late Indrapala Abeyweera, I entered active politics due to the strong urge from his loyal supporters to continue his humanitarian service for the people of Kalutara District after his untimely and tragic death during the insurgency period in south.The first significant milestone in my political career is my ground level commitment for the 'Paada Yathra' movement, a concept of former President Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksha. I consider this a turning point in my political history as I was the first and only female representative of Parliament to be a force in this movement.In reflection of my entire political journey including the eleven years at Sri Lanka Parliament as a Member of Parliament and as a Deputy Minister, I take immense pride to declare that I have never committed or been accused of any fraud, bribery or corruption. The only wealth I have earned over the years is the gratitude of the people that I have served with untiring efforts. In this regard, I reflect with joy, my efforts in pioneering the construction of the Kalutara Main Bus Station, Hospital Building and my contribution to find employment for the youth of Kalutara District.Staying true to my political ambitions of creating a prosperous Sri Lanka where justice and rule of law is upheld, I intend to work with unshakable effort to help in eliminating poverty in Sri Lanka by developing education, agriculture and industry.
